Relatively new house (<10 years) on an acre+ in an established, active neighborhood in a good school district with a relatively short commute. That said, I'm realistic -- it's not a palace (although it's relatively upscale for a mcmansion), and it's not particularly unique. And I wish it had more garage space and a more efficient layout inside (for example, there's a sitting room area in the master BR, which I find to be stupid and wasteful). Just a simple, small 2-BR apartment, but everything works, it has a washer and drier in-unit, and it's in a good location with a bus route outside my front door. I'm a 5-minute walk from my gym and grocery store, 10 minutes from one of my favorite restaurants, and 15 minutes from my church.
Would be 6/10 if it were cheaper and in a better city. |

this area is pretty middle class, and it isn't all that convenient - we are close to DC but my wife works in NOVA and I work downtown and have about a 30 minute metro ride in. also, the high school we're zoned for is shit.

Drawbacks: Would be nice to have a guest bedroom and be a bit more nestled into a neighborhood. Also bc the placement of the house, the yard isnt really in an ideal shape and a good chunk cant really be used. |

I prefer sleeping here and spending time here o virtually anywhere and that’s a huge statement because I am an extrovert. So I throw parties. Lots of parties. Wife has gone buckwild and probably put 250k into decor including wallpaper. I plant and manage azaleas. The reason it’s not a 10 is that the lot is too small for a massive yard. 102 year old house in a historical neighborhood in the middle of the city's arts and entertainment districts on a 0.25ac lot. 5 minute walk to the newest up and coming hipster arts district which has doubled in size in the last 2 years. $5 uber ride to everywhere else worth going to eat and drink. I entertain people a lot for this reason.
I completely remodeled the kitchen and upgraded all the electrical, plumbing, etc throughout. I'm currently expanding the already huge deck to put in a hot tub. |

4 bed + maid’s villa 10 minutes walk from the beach and 20 minutes drive from my office in rush hour, Dubai. High walls all around. Not much outside area, just a small patch of grass in the back. Some maintenance issues and the landlord is a dick sometimes. Scores highly for the location.
My parents have a genuinely beautiful house. Stone colonial from the 1920s. People really knew how to build lovely houses back then. |

Older craftsman in a homogenous and beautiful neighborhood but needs some SERIOUS work. I've made some minor improvements since moving in 3 years ago but it's time to make some BIG CHANGES. Getting some foundation work done this week, then doing major landscaping and exterior work over the next 4-6 months will result in a major bump.
Tangibles that will keep value down are a corner lot on a major street that can get loud, shit neighbor who has their mailbox in a cement filled 5 gallon home depot bucket, and lack of funds for new siding and even more major renovations in the next 18-24 months but that will be fixed soon enough. |
