Of course they do, that's why anyone with any money tries to weasel out of them.
Remember when noted shitlib EPAH was on here asking about setting up residence in a different western state to avoid all the state income taxes? Even shitlibs don't wanna pay for the shit they're selling.

I mean I could in theory.
As an example, Jimmy Kimmel makes what, $10M per year?
If he came out and said "healthcare for kids is so important to me that I'm donating 90% of my salary to a vehicle that aims to provide universal insurance for kids who don't have it and I'm encouraging all of my Hollywood friends to do the same", I'd at least have some respect for that.

Only tolerate it because of how much household income we can pull in. As soon as we decide to slow down / become more “work optional” I want to GTFO because of taxes and libs.
The really bad ones:
- Cap gains taxed as ordinary income
- Sales tax
- Property tax (rate isnt bad, but property values are so high)
- Car purchases, you pay tax on the sale amount, not difference (new car - old car value). Psycologically, it gets me to keep a car 1-2yrs longer than I would elsewhere.

LOL i think you've used this "bucket-list" type places thing before
If something is on my bucket list, WGAF about getting on a plane to see it? It's 6 hours from NYC versus 3 in traffic from SF.
And whose bucket list has Heavenly or Kirkwood on it? Are you talking about Yosemite?

Bro, it's way more than Yosemite. And that flight from NYC lands at SFO and then you have the same traffic issues as had you started here.
Yosemite
Sequoia / Kings Canyon
Lake Tahoe (whether skiing or the lake/area itself)
Redwoods
Big Sur
Monterey / Carmel / Pebble Beach
Napa & Sonoma
Mendocino
SF itself
Central Coast - SLO, Paso, Hearst Castle, etc.
Santa Cruz
Lost Coast if you're not fat

Precisely - for someone who likes cars, if I didn't have to pay the ~10% tax on the full sale price, I'd probably flip my cars every 36 months or so. When I lived in other states, I could either:
a.) sell my car private party and if I bought a new (dealer or private) car w/in a certain time period credit that against the purchase price.
b.) bring the buyer of my car to the dealer, and do an "in and out" where I technically trade in the car, get the credit, then they sell it to the buyer at our agreed upon price.
It's not even about whether I can afford the extra tax CA applies, it's just mentally it pisses me off and thus I'm keeping cars 48-60 months now. I'm sure it hurts dealership sales volumes, and at minimum encourages people to buy private party because the seller can give you paperwork that says you paid a lot less than you really did.

LOL brother plenty of illegals in socal and bay area. Not sure this is the distinction I'd try to draw with Texas.
Austin and Dallas aren't humid.
Food options outside of wine country is no better than TX IMO. It's certainly not on NYC level.

Austin is humid as fuck - I used to live there. But CR for the rest.
Austin has great food and Houston is one of the best food cities in the country.

what makes me MAF isn't the high taxes. I could pay Swedish-style taxes if I got Swedish-style services. what makes me MAF is that we pay Sweden taxes and get Burundi-level services.
we have trash, underfunded public schools. cops can't do shit to keep streets clean. terrible roads. just libs need to be gassed for this crime.

I can't opine as to what that would do to the real estate market there.
Are most commercial tenants party to triple-net leases where they pay the pro rata share of the RE taxes? that may effect a lot of small business owners.
Again, not saying it shouldn't be done, just that it becomes hard to unwind this benefit.

The tax rate would be fine if they used it on environmental stuff (rather than global warming mumbo jumbo) and on massive police forces to kick the bums and the other criminals out. (Rather than da skoolz)
Also not taxing capital gains at ordinary rates.
