yeah the number of planets have actually DECREASED since I was a kid so planetariums have even less info now than they did when I was super into them

like a natural history museum or an art museum can have visiting exhibits so even if you've been there a million times you can see something new. a planetarium can't say "okay for the next six months we have a visiting exhibit about some planets created by a dutch master that are different from our own"

to be a PLANETARIUM, you must have a dome-shaped room where stars can be projected onto the ceiling. Anything without this feature is just a science museum.

For example, the Air and Space Museum in DC has all sorts of cool exhibits about planets and spaceships, but because it lacks a circular room for starshows it cannot claim the prestigious title of PLANETARIUM

The Adler Planetarium in Chicago is built on an artificial peninsula that juts into Lake Michigan. To get to it, you must walk down this long causeway with the lake on both sides.

It was the start on earth then keep going farther and farther away kind of show. Moon. Planets. Galaxy. Galactic Cluster.

Makes you either feel really small or that all the science behind it is flame.

It was a cool show, but I'd seen it before. Next time I'd want to see one checking out individual stars or pretty nebulae.
