There is no minimum billables and you can work from home. You can make a ton of money -- you get to keep approx. 80% of work you bring in and approx. 40% of work that you bill on -- and you set your own billable rate. Can someone explain to me why this isn't a great gig?

Also you get 2 percent of anyone's book that you recruit per year in perpetuity.

Probably ridiculous conflict issues, burning any future opportunities, lack of meaningful legal support on ancillary questions. Also, what does it take to get in?

You need to be a 7th year or higher at an AM law 200 firm.

Fisher will be AM law 200 very soon.

This is not a sponsored post. I'm just very curious why I had never heard of this.

Conflict issues because it's just a bunch of people who broke away individually from random groups. No framework (or presumably, less of a framework) to manage conflicts cohesively across the firm. Hard to find work elsewhere because it will be seen as a fake firm.

From what I can tell, it's eat-what-you-kill work-from-home law.

What's the point of the firm? Marketing? Health insurance?

Probably more of the former. I actually think it would help with the kind of client who thinks they're too good for a solo or two-man firm, but isn't sophisticated enough to realize that Fisher Broyles is just a collection of solos or two-man firms.

It's actually a clever business model. Managing conflicts and malpractice risk are the tough parts.

I think so. Lots of businesses are big enough to hire a lawyer at least semi-regularly, but are run by a guy with a BS in construction management from the local directional state university. That's probably your target audience here.

Makes sense though, inasmuch as the firm presumably screens for a certain degree of competence and marketability. It's not just rebranding a bunch of DUI shitlawyer, it could also be a way of collecting a bunch of qualified solos with subject matter experience.

Its a firm because the associates are recruited as a class and paid by the firm. There has to be limits on use of associate time by the partners right?
