I smoked for nearly ten years, half a pack a day, and while I never struggled quitting any other drug or alcohol, cigarettes were tough for me to quit. After I initially tried snus I would smoke just two more cigarettes and have not wanted to smoke. *knocks on wood*

You can get the real snus made in Sweden according to higher production standards, as opposed to Camel or Phillip Morris garbage that both contain more shady chemicals and taste like shit. The Swedish snus is flash pasteurized, I believe, with water instead of being cured with the aid of heat or fire. This supposedly makes it safer that dipping Redman, Beech nut, Copenhagen, etc. One final benefit is the cost: I spend under 4 dollars on a can of snus which lasts me nearly a week. I used to spend 40 a week on smokes.

Yeah, but the thing is, it feels like I am weaning myself off of tobacco by using snus. I'll be honest, the first two weeks after replacing cigs with snus were tough. I got the classic sleepiness symptoms lots of people get when they suddenly reduce their nicotine intake. I figured out these were due to some neurotransmitter deficiency, and purchased vitamins e, a, and c, to be taken together, to compensate while my body resumed producing said transmitter on its own. I began feeling like new within a few days. I cannot stress how surprised I was not to crave a cigarette and how sudden the onset of this desire being discarded was. The only other aspect of quitting I recall was that I had to confront the underlying psychological purpose that lighting up had been serving me all those years, and that purpose was simply to kill time out of boredom. I had never realized how heavily I had been relying on cigarettes to divert my attention for a few minutes. So in this regard, I inadvertently reclaimed a distinct amount if mental bandwidth in the course of confronting and conquering this aspect of my old addiction.
