What are the racial politics in Atlanta like?

Is there significant racial tension for middle class people? Are there integrated suburbs? What is the urban core like? Is segregation of neighborhoods mostly self-imposed or is it encouraged from either direction? Who controls city government? Where do the huge-congregation black celebrity ministers fit in with Democratic Party politics? What is the white flight situation, is it reversing? Are middle and UMC blacks annoyed with being somewhat confined to certain areas and is there significant race-mixing in UMC enclaves like philanthropy, symphony, the arts more broadly? What is the tenor of news reporting on racially charged criminal justice issues? Do lower-middle class and working class whites display redneck shit like Stars and Bars or other crypto-racist messaging?
Where do other minorities fit in and how are they treated by the black leaders? |
Date: May 20th, 2018 7:56 PM Author: Bespoke cruel-hearted multi-billionaire i perceive less class/race tension than in other cities, esp midwestern cities, probably because white or black you're going to be around people of both races pretty much every day, even in the UMC professional wagecuck class. maybe it's different if you're black on the southside or white in alpharetta and never leave ur hood. doesn't mean people don't roll their eyes or get hostile over the same things that cause racial conflict elsewhere, just means interactions with all else being equal are civil and generally friendly in a way that i think u see less elsewhere cue someone else saying it's all racewar nao all the time, it may just be me, idk |

Date: May 20th, 2018 11:56 PM Author: Bespoke cruel-hearted multi-billionaire probably fair to say, tho i think at least some of it is a result of (i) there are only so many umc black people even in atl and (ii) some self-segregation when asked at least some black umc people say they want "vibrancy" and diversity which seems to amount to they want to live around people who look like them and not a buncha fuckin white ppl, which seems perfectly fine and reasonable to me fair number of mc-to-umc neighborhoods that on the surface seem relatively integrated like decatur but i don't know them well enough to say whether that's because they have still smaller enclaves of residents who predated gentrification, places like o4w are somewhat integrated but also u may have a junkie try to sell u smack at a gas station on boulevard so i'm going to say he and his probably aren't really considered part of any integration even if he shows up on the bottom line |
