If it was a white ballerina dancing so poorly, she'd be absolutely crucified in the comment section, on every video that shows clips of her dancing, she'd be critiqued poorly by every reporter who watches her dance, and she'd be fired from even mediocre ballet companies - but this is ABT. Let's be real here. She's an inspiration because she started dancing VERY late, can do ballet well (taking into account she started late), she's African American and there aren't enough African American dancers in the ballet world, Prince loved her, her PR team praises her, and she's had documentaries about her, books written, etc. all praising her as being an inspiration. And you know what? I don't think that any of us aren't saying that she shouldn't be an inspiration. She is a role model and that's fine. But Odette / Odile, for example, is one of THE hardest roles to play in ballet, and you can be an inspiration and a role model all day long til the sun don't shine... but that doesn't mean you should be allowed to butcher one of the hardest ballet roles out there, all because you are an "inspiration", and I think that's how a lot of us feel about this whole thing.
