As long as people steered clear of those, they were afforded much more latitude in their behavior without the risk of adverse consequences.
Now, the framework is flipped. There are a limited number of archetypes everyone is expected to conform to, and if you depart from one of these approved archetypes, you will be labeled awkward. |
