But if you assume the average person would leave their current WFH job for a facetime job that pays 25% more, and that WFH materially increases (let's say 1.5x) the risk of employees finding other facetime jobs that pay substantially more, then WFH carries a retention penalty for employers. I don't know if 25% is the right number, but it's not far off. I bet 90% of people would take an everyday facetime job over a WFH job if the facetime job paid 40% more. Everything is less convenient. To get food you need to either drive somewhere or eat at the shitty cafeteria after waiting in a line. It is all overpriced and low quality. Instead, you could walk over to your fridge and get good quality food. Instead of going to Starbucks I can use my espresso machine.
I can walk my dog during the day and actually unwind for a little bit.
Also, coming into an office is expensive as shit. Get a dog walker. Pay for gas. Wear and tear on your car. Overpriced lunch/coffee. Getting dry cleaning.
