We live on the first floor in this complex with three stories and although we are on the first floor we still have to go up stairs to get to our floor.

I'm barefoot and going up the stairs which are covered in these tiny pebbles. I'm thinking, "These stairs are a lot longer when you are barefoot."

Also know that I left our apartment door unlocked.

The first thing I notice was a new sign on a neighbor's door that said, "Take it to the ocean!"

I remember thinking, "hmmm, when did they put that up? We're in Mission Valley, not that far from the ocean. . . "

And then I get to our apartment and notice there are now a pair of work boots in front of my door.

Fight or flight instict kicked in. I remember my only thought was, "WHO THE FUCK" and I rushed my door, pressed down on the handle to throw the door open and it was LOCKED.

Then I look up and realize I'm on the second floor. So then I ran down the hallways and the stairs back down to my apartment before anyone saw me.
