Age doesn't stop someone from being their child. Even if the person is 80 years old, at the end of the day, that's still someone's child.

I feel like it's more warranted when their kid is a child - could be argued that they are more an extension of their parents. Once they are full grown adults, they are no longer "extensions" of their parents - very embarrassing to watch people brag about middle aged "children." It's just pathetic and sad - these parents need to get their own lives.

They are still representative of their parents. A successful adult is usually a reflection of the parents doing a good job for the first 2 decades of life.

lol

Nobody cares about middle aged geezers and nobody wants to hear about them.

Talk to me about your 5 year old - ok, fine. Talk to me about your 35 yr old? LOL STFU.

I guess the main point is - nobody cares about your kids, but we give you a break if the kid is young. If the kid is middle aged - STFU please.

5 year old is potty trained and can read.

Frankly, I don't want to hear about any of it, but I'll give you a break if you brag about a kid. I don't care about your middle aged geezer "child".

Yes, the bragging is annoying. Just got back from a family visit in which an in-law bragged constantly about his 41 year old son who is pulling down $1M/year in a medical speciality. My 160+ IQ 45 year old son is currently committed to a psychiatric hospital. My 42 year old son is psychotic, off his meds, and talking to his hallucinations. Neither has ever worked, and I am still supporting them. Remember parents: YMMV, and the pitter patter of little feet may become something far worse....

At best, nobody else cares; at worst, they just come off pretentious and unsympathetic. The CR behavior is to not talk about your kids, period. I just spoke to a boomer who bragged about their 35 year old son's high school accomplishments and their daughter's PhD in Meditation from a shit school. I think it's because these boomers come from an uneducated family, so they think this is some amazing accomplishment. Very sad.
