Date: May 28th, 2018 1:12 AM Author: alcoholic garrison every game is a "dying game" when the latest new toy comes out. fortnite is boring as fuck for me to play and there aren't really many options out there for a fast paced FPS.
From playing today the part I like the least is the pretty limited "official" game modes; I'm sure a downside when I play competitive is people bitching and always playing DPS, but that's just the nature of a game like that. Other than that the pace is pretty good, there are alternative options when I get bored (e.g. deathmatch, even though I'm sure it's hilariously unbalanced, and CTF), and I don't give a shit about everyone whining about "loot boxes" or whatever the fuck those things are.
The only multiplayer game I've played over the last year is rocket league, which is pretty much a straight grind. I still like rocket league, but it seems like Blizzard has done a pretty good job of giving people a fair number of options in how they want to play a game if they're more casual. It's also $20 at the moment. Am I missing something? |

By the time TF2 came out I didn't have a PC for gaming anymore but I was reasonably good at halo and sniper was pretty easy mode since most people on console were used to some form of aim-assist in games.
I've found my muscle memory for DPS while pretty bad is actually not as terrible as I thought it would be being 30. I played around with soldier 76 on DPS just because it's pretty obviously the most straightforward character and the first thing I need to work on is getting reaction for flicking back.
It's the other classes (aside from Rein and Mercy) I feel like will take a lot of time/reading to adjust to. I have no idea WTF Dva is supposed to actually do for instance, it's a really weird mix of abilities. |

And yeah it's a game you can take seriously, and enjoy improving your skills. It has just enough moba kind of elements to add an extra layer but it really isn't a burden, just a small initial hump. But the overall skill ceiling is very high.
Soldier is fine at first but he's actually hard to really make an impact with, at least for me. But I'm better up close. I do like soldier; get good at saving your heal for when you can fight on it and have the advantage. Obviously get good with the rocket.
Zarya might be my favorite. She can swing a match with her ultimate and is just overall very capable.
Generally, realize it's a fucking team game, fight with and support your team and you'll do well. Don't die. Don't chase or take stupid risks. Don't be forward. |

Having your mech explode then bounce around to finish off the kill (her mobility is pretty nuts) is 180. Also hilarious to boost straight into a sniper with the shield up and destroy them up close. I guess it has a "medium" skill rating because when things get more competitive she's harder to use as a true tank, but I think for now I'll stick with her because she's definitely my favorite to just play.
I tried playing Tracer but fucking suck nuts at her. My reflexes just aren't sharp enough to do all that pinpoint warping and not get gaped. |

I always sucked with dva. Zarya and Hog are my favorite tanks to play. Hog is a fucking blast.
Tracer is 180 af but really high skill floor. Need to have great tracking aim but also be able to handle her movement. I'm pretty strong with her in deathmatch but not reliably good in matches.
Try Reaper, man. He's easy as hell (his ability makes him invincible.) Just sneak up, shoot, and wraith away if it gets hairy. Just stay close enough to your team so you can fall back during wraith. His gun does great damage up close, so stuff the barrel in their chest and then circle them.

I LOL'd when I just kamikazed in with my ultimate and took out 3 people jumping around, or when I basically did the same thing but popped my shield and launched missiles at everyone. Way harder on real competitive I'm sure as she is a very large target to hit while not being a true tank soI'll have to get better at mobility.
I'll give Reaper a shot after I get decent with D.Va. Since he uses a shotgun it should be pretty easy to get used to shooting with him as D.Va also uses one. |

I enjoy both, but FPS is primarily about getting into a zone of fully concentrating on aiming and dodging (and whatever other minor shit to pay attention to.) It's much less about knowing the enemy so well you can steer it around.
I like PvP for FPS and other action games that need a lot of reflex and visual concentration. I don't like PvP in strategy games. |

My biggest complaint is that some of the maps are very bland and they need to figure out more competitive game modes than "protect thing" and "capture thing". At least they offer alternative modes for casual play |

I'm pretty impressed there isn't more bitching about balance from what I've seen in the Overwatch community--people complain as expected, but if blizzard hadn't done something right people would be whining constantly and vocally. They managed to avoid what they did with WoW which was "balancing" classes by making them all do the same fucking thing with different skins. |
