We gave very little up. What we gave up (sanctions), allows them to open up their economy which is frankly better for both parties anyway. There is no intelligence or evidence that they failed to abide by the deal. And perhaps most importantly, we didn't give up anything going forward. Which is to say that getting out of the deal doesn't actually give us anything or save us anything. We damaged our credibility for nothing in return.
It's unclear whether Iran will abide by the deal in the future. Europe is attempting to save it by giving the middle finger to the US and daring it to strictly enforce the US sanctions against banks and entities doing business with Iran. It's an unnecessary game of chicken at this point. Will the US strictly enforce the sanctions? Will the sanctions even be around in 2-3 years? |

Vehemently disagree here. The sanctions took a long time to get into place and had the backing of countries we could never again get on board. Like China, there is no evidence that economic ties will lead to a more open and free Iranian society. All we did was give the IRGC a ton of money to sow discontent all around the middle east. |
