Wife got a new job, $40K raise - already spending the money

I'm very happy for her and proud of her. I just wish she didn't already start eyeing luxury cars now that she doesn't need a prius for the commute. I should just give her my BMW and drive the prius - i dont give a fuck about cars.
Also even though I've only put 5000 miles on my car over 18 months, I would still be underwater buying it out and then trying to sell it at blue book value. Fucking depreciation on sports cars. |

You also pay a shit ton in taxes. They audit uber rich people with a ton of write offs in the millions range or the plebs who have a mismatch in their tax forms and what they report flagged automatically by the system. They don’t go after you for a $60k write off. |

I don’t have a particularly aggressive accountant either.
Your run of the mill small biz owner with some $20-30k in business meals, home office, phone and maybe a car or two is considered nothing and everybody I know does this with virtually zero audit risk. The IRS does not go after very small potatoes and will not spend years digging through your receipts showing a bunch of attendees for business meals and whether you have a 250 square foot home office or a 300 one based on your iPhone photo evidence.
My accountant says the risk primarily arises from any large dips or increases in deductions from year to year that raises red flags. In that sense earl runs a higher risk to go from $8k or whatever in lease payments to a $60k car, but as far as passing the actual audit, I believe he can do so. |
