up for a non-secure gs12/13 fed attorney job. anyone know how big a deal credit issues are? i've got them. lost my job, then had unexpected big ticket medical shit for both me and kid, so have a reason.

but assuming they pull my credit (will they?) if i've paid off/in payment for collections and up to date with bills (but have some derogatories on history), will that be good enough? do i need them completely deleted? i honestly have like 4-5. but all but one is medical, which i think i can use hipaa to get completely deleted if i pay off completely. just a pain to pay off completely instead of negotiating lower payoff, and letting them stay on.

Credit card debt is also at historical high of 20k. but that's still only 30% of my limit. problem?

so the update is 4 of 5 agreed to pay for delete and i paid them off today. yay. they should be off before anyone looks.

but they were all for a couple hundred or less (medical bills i was arguing i didn't have to pay, and a cable company "didn't return the equipment" charge.)

but i have one last for 15k. it's a student loan. i can't pfd it. i could only pay in full if i took money out of the 401k. what should i do. payment plan? ignore and explain reasons?

(i applied for a deferral when i lost my job and was granted it for all three access group loans. only i didn't realize one had just been transferred. so no deferral. ignored emails from new lender because didn't sound familiar/thought was spam. and after four months it went to collections.)

besides this i just have two thirty day lates and a fairly high credit card balance (but still under 30% of total available.) so i should be good. it's a huge single collection left though.
