Have a decent entry level road bike. Wheels are a little dinged up anyway. Have heard replacing wheels is one of the best upgrades bc stock wheels on most bikes suck. Any recommendations for basic road biking wheelsets?

Kinda depends. Will $200-$300 make a difference vs the stock wheels I have? I fucked up the tire on one, so need to replace that, anyway.

I don't think $200-300 is going to make that much of a difference, honestly.

Its a 3 yr old bike that was about $1.1K. Aluminum frame, carbon fork. The stock wheels look like shit, and the particular model was expired last year, so I can't figure out what kind of wheels the stock ones are.

Not opposed to spending more if it would increase speed, but seems odd to spend $500 when that's half the cost of the bike but IDK.

No, need to spend real $$ to make a difference and then its less difference that you'd make by skipping lunch and losing 5 lb.

The difference between a standard box rim and a decent aero wheel is probably like 30-40w at least.

Specialized allez but upgrade to the $950 one.

Trek will sell you something similar for $1000 with slightly better components but a slightly less good frame.

Can't go wrong

If you're comfortable with knowing what size you need, i would recommend buying used for value. Shimano 105/Sram Rival or above for your components.

If you're pushing hard there shouldn't be much pressure on the seat bc your weight is constantly on the pedals.

I bought a Specialized Crosstrail (midrange hybrid) about 10 years ago and was just beating up the factory wheels the first six months. Put on some Rhynolite Sun rims that were part of a custom wheel build and haven't had an issue since. Easily the best $125 I've spent on a bicycle upgrade.

Go to a good bikeshop that builds wheels and ask for recommendations. Handbuilt wheels >>>> crap from the factory.

usually the hubs in stock wheels are shit, so you'll notice an immediate improvement. you probably don't NEED new rims unless you gotta go fast, but you'll probably get them anyhow.

get US hubs and rims if you can.
