XO scholars: what is the consensus about diet soda and artificial sweeteners?

Date: June 22nd, 2018 7:04 PM Author: Jet wonderful mexican My wife slams several diet sodas every day. She wonders why she can't drop weight. I'm convinced the diet soda plays a role. But if I suggest that to her face she has a comniption and points out the # of calories and lAck of sugar.
I tried explaining that the sweetness is likely fucking with her digestive/metabolic chemistry but she just gets defensive and points out that I can't prove it. |

Studies have shown it affects gut microbiome and can have a similar effect on insulin resistance as sugar.
I would also explain to her that aspartame is linked to cancer and that the other artificial sweeteners are just chemicals that happen to taste sweet and haven't been studied long term.
Also anecdotally look at the people who swill down this stuff. IMO it wrecks their body, makes their skin look weird, makes them get fat, etc etc.
If it has no calories, she shouldn't even bother drinking it because she's getting no benefit either way. If she needs something to drink to keep her pigeon brain occupied, get her some LaCroix water or whatever. |
