Overall it was just an absolutism, and a complete arrogance in their beliefs that I had never seen before in the political arena. There was not even an atom of doubt in their beliefs - and their sweeping absolutism of painting half the entire country as literal idiots and racists was such lazy and scary thinking on their part like I had never seen before.

It amazed me that e.g. they didn't even allow for some room such as: "Trump clearly won by flipping Obama counties in the rust belt, meaning he likely got a non insignificant number of Obama voters who had voted Dem most of their lives probably to swap and vote for him this cycle. Gee - maybe with JUST this small group of people (who won him the election) - JUST MAYBE - there was a correlation between his economic message and their economic conditions, and that perhaps these people voted on pocketbook issues".

There was also a blindness on so many levels like not seeing how calling a bunch of people racist idiots was exactly the kind of thing that could make someone want to vote for Trump over Hillary.

One of my good friends, a chick whose politics I have no idea, texted me within 2-3 days of liking Trump to be like "uh, hey, just wanted to let you know that you liked Trump on facebook and some people noticed." I told her that it was nothing political and I thought his updates were amusing and wanted to see them and wouldn't remove my "like" for him.

She's cool as hell, but I couldn't believe that anyone would reach out like this.

So, any discussion will lead to "dude that's racist" and you have to scramble to defend yourself that you're not. It's just not worth it. It gives me insane anxiety and makes my heart pound just thinking about it, or even having a discussion just hover around it with any potential to get overtly political. I have had tons of experiences with friends and colleagues over the past 2 years, and those discussions have by and large ended terribly and ruined several friendships, I just can't do it anymore

And now we have the "but the children!" shit that women I know were literally in tears over. They're 100% in on fake news and emotional propaganda, there is nothing to gain from even trying to discuss anything anymore. Some kids cried, therefore borders are racist and evil.
