The only thing anyone should be gunning for is financial independence to the degree they want to be independent (e.g. some people want $ just to chill, others want limitless travel etc), everything else is an undignified acceptance of some degree of modern debt slavery.
A lot of people had this as children, when parents essentially offered a temporary freedom by covering a kid's financial obligations, but for most it then goes away forever, or until they're too old to enjoy it. |

While I do work a fair amount I now have a completely flexible schedule, dictated only by my clients' bullshit, not anyone at my firm. I usually wake up around 8:30 or 9. I work from home for a little and go to the office around 11. I leave between 6 and 7 to have dinner with my wife every night. If I have more work to do I finish it in my home office.
The stress of billable hours and client demands really does suck, but i can't imagine another job with as much independence as I have now - day to day at least. Had I gone down another path a long time ago maybe I would have found something fulfilling and rewarding $$$ wise, but it's been so long that i can't even imagine what that would be.
I have enough time to play video games, play with my dog, work out whenever i want, and drink and smoke pot all the time. And about 3 times as much money as I need for my lifestyle. Could be worse. |

I know lots of people who do work after kids go to bed and obviously taking care of young kids after work isn’t the same as relaxing with wife for a few hours as a break. |
