Everyone wastes so much time at work, things would be so much better if we had a four-day workweek. France also saw efficiency gains when they went to a 35 hour workweek.

A New Zealand firm that let its employees work four days a week while being paid for five says the experiment was so successful that it hoped to make the change permanent.
The firm, Perpetual Guardian, which manages trusts, wills and estates, found the change actually boosted productivity among its 240 employees,

Has any prediction been more off the mark than Keyne's idea that we would all be working 15 hour weeks? I hope Norway or somewhere else shows this is possible.

Despite the cloud of angst Norway seems to be living under (“Norway’s oil wealth swamps innovation”, October 20), by cleverly managing its oil wealth the country might in fact be the first to have solved what John Maynard Keynes, in a 1930 lecture entitled “Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren”, referred to as “the economic problem”, and could now concentrate “for the first time since creation [on] the real permanent problem — how to use freedom from pressing cares, how to occupy the leisure, which science and compound interest will have won [for them], to live wisely and agreeably and well”.
The Norwegians are on course to achieving, by 2030, the 15-hour workweek Keynes predicted for well-managed economies. Norway, despite its harsh climate and relative geographical isolation, is a winner when compared with other natural resource-endowed countries such as Nigeria and Venezuela because it developed the appropriate institutions, adopted the discipline of thinking long-term and focused its social policies on creating and nurturing human capital.
With some modest support from central bankers, Norway will succeed even if its oil resources are exhausted or the demand for oil declines because of the most powerful force in the universe, compound interest!
