And, yeah — ok — I get it: the contrast of Kim yearning for less stressful, low paying cases where she can help people out & provide a public service rather than be a slave of corporate megalomaniacs, whereas Jimmy is dying for faster paced activity & more responsibility. Didn’t need a whole episode focused on it. So much of it was boring & uninteresting. |

The point of Breaking Bad was watching a normal family man become evil. The point of Better Call Saul is watching a guy try to fudge around the lines and ending up a Cinnabon Chump. He lives, but barely.
If Jimmy played it straight and narrow he’d be wildly successful, but he cant because that’s not his nature. The scene where he got the photocopy job is the perfect example; he refused to work for rubes even though there is zero chance he would not be their number one salesperson. He quit on principal, like the Groucho Marx joke.
But this theme has been there from Season 1 when he had the three client interviews. It went from ludicrous but big money to almost no money and very honest work. Jimmy could have been the Elder Law king, but just doing the job is never enough for him.
How many times during this show has he had a clear path to success if he could just do the right thing? That’s what’s haunting him in all the Cinnabon flash forwards. |

We already see him on the right track by bringing them to the biker gang and other seedy folks. |
