My mom taught Head Start and KG at a Title I school for 25 years and my wife worked at five different Title I schools in 1st and 2nd for 10 years, and then worked at a non-profit that targeted at risk youth (85% black, 15% latino) living in public housing. These kids are FUCKED by the time they are 5. You literally have kids coming to KG who aren't potty trained and don't respond when their names are called. You guys like to pretend it's all IQ and they would be useless no matter what, but it's plainly obvious to anyone who spends more than a couple hours with kids in these places that their problems have a lot to do with neglect of their basic needs. When you've had kids and had to expend all the effort to care for them and make arrangements for their care when you're at work, then come back and see me and tell me whether you think the average ghetto black/brown/white is able to do everything they need to do for their kids. And I'm sure the same's broadly true in shit parts of Russia, China, and everywhere else.

I am a lib because I want to believe that if we did something more for these parents they might treat their children better (or maybe just have less of a chance to fuck them up). And I know plenty of people who had shit parents who turned out fine (including a fair number of the kids my mom and wife worked with). But I'm under no delusions that ghetto blacks are undeserving of most of the blame for their own social dysfunction.

Government programs can never replace good parenting, no matter how much $$$ we throw at the problem. Our only hope is to do what we can to mitigate the fallout and to help the kids become productive members of society. Most of these kids will not go on to be doctors or engineers, but they can still provide societal value.

The only other solution is to remove them from the home early and setup communal living with strict oversight and discipline, but we dont want to live in country where the govt. has that type of power.

Steve Sailer used to frequently comment that many progressive plans to eliminate the racial achievement gap--think year round schools, universal pre-k, etc.--amount to making sure black kids spend as little time in the care of their parents as possible. He compared this to a program that Australia had decades ago for Aboriginal children where the children were sent to live with white families from a young age in hopes it would help them integrate into mainstream society. I'm not sure whether the program showed any positive effects at all but it obviously did not solve the gap between Aboriginals and whites on a broad scale and is now remembered (by politicians and the MSM) as a shameful, racist period in history that is referred to as the Lost Generation.

Murray's entire point is that we should not incentivize dumb people to have more kids, whether the dumb people are black, white, yellow, or brown. However, SJWs refuse to spend even a second of critical thought on this issue and immediately jump to spazzing out about how inhumane it is to reduce benefits to poor people who have multiple children.

Murray's paradigm about not intentivizing dumb people to have more kids is not inherently anti-poor people. Of course, his specific proposal entailed UBI that reduced the total amount of benefits paid to poor people, but that is to be expected from a conservative policy guy at a conservative think tank. A net reduction is not an inherent characteristic of Murray's basic approach.

It is entirely consistent with Murray's fundamental policy proposal for the government to pay MORE in benefits to poor people. For example, the government could increase the benefits that everyone receives, regardless of the number of children to an amount equal to what a single mother would receive if she had 3 children. This would constitute an inherent reward to all single mothers with 1 or 2 children and incentivize all mothers who depend on government benefits to not have more children. This is the kind of debate that both conservatives and liberals should be willing to engage in.

One thing that immediately springs to mind is the absolute BULLSHIT of affirmative action combined with partial scholarships that send unprepared poor kids to college and then leave them no choice but to get a part time JOB (or full time job!) just to cover costs. OfCOURSE they drop out of college at massive rates. We need to offer full scholarships and living expenses for smart, underprivileged kids to go to college and send them to universities on their level, where they can actually succeed.

The other outcome of affirmative action is of course wealth, self entitles minorities who go to schools they didnt earn and act defensive because they know damn well they didnt earn their spot.
