“Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald’s comments in the press today, The Tonight Show has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday’s telecast,” a spokesperson for NBC’s late-night talk show said Tuesday night.

To make up for Macdonald’s absence, a segment with guest Matthew McConaughey will run longer.

The Tonight Show‘s decision to pull Macdonald from the guest lineup follows an interview with the Saturday Night Live alum posted by THR earlier on Tuesday to promote Macdonald’s new show on Netflix. In the interview, Macdonald indicated that he was glad that the #MeToo reckoning in Hollywood seemed to have “slowed down a little bit” and spoke in defense of Louis C.K. and Roseanne Barr following their scandals.

In one of the most controversial parts of the interview, which triggered backlash, he said of C.K. and Barr, “There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, ‘What about the victims?’ But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.”

He later clarified his comments and apologized on Twitter.

MacDonald's whole career was founded on being the 'pet reactionary' on SNL, and a jew-MSM fixture. he became popular in the mid-90s as conservative winds were blowing in the culture (the 'Republican Revolution' in 1994, the white backlash to the OJ trial). he was useful, momentarily, to the cultural gatekeepers, who had to adjust, grudgingly, to the reality of a centre-right white American electorate (just as Clinton himself tacked 'conservative' in the mid-90s). his career was defined by his startling peculiarity within liberal showbiz.

now he's expendable.

go back and watch all of his Weekend Update segments. that's what made his name. 90% of the humor was OJ-related race-baiting, homophobic bits, anti-Clinton stuff from the mid-90s, which relied on being regressively anti-liberal for its 'shock value.' that was his schtick. deadpan anti-PC.

everything he has done since then has revolved around this same explicitly anti-PC schtick (he is not afraid to mock homosexuality, women, marginal groups, #MeToo, etc) in an era when that is increasingly considered beyond the pale.

he has also endorsed/praised republican candidates for President (Dole, Bush, Trump), while consistently trashing the Clintons, and other Democrats.

i'm not saying he has a coherent political philosophy. he's a moron. but the slant of his humor is anti-liberal/workingman 'right-wing'.
