They never should have agreed to a delay, period. It is undisputed that Feinstein received this letter back in July.
It is undisputed that she sat on it for months, even interviewing Kavanaugh while knowing about it, yet said nothing.
And Kavanaugh already went through the confirmation hearings.
The GOP should have said there is no excuse for the delay, if it was promptly reported the accusation could be thoroughly vetted behind closed doors, and it would be denying due process to indulge the accusation now. The vote goes on as scheduled.

And it's smart politics on their part.
But the key for the R's is to keep laser focus on Feinstein's misconduct and the dems' delay tactics. The fact that the allegation is 36 years old and is one isolated alleged incident against an otherwise unblemished record also helps. But that stuff is better left unsaid because it comes too close to the "victim-blaming" line which could cause squishy R's like Flake to falter. |
