its quicker with a clutch. with an auto-manual you have to wait for the car's computer to process your input command and then execute it, which still uses the car's automatic shifting system. with a clutch its all mechanical and much quicker.

Modern auto's are getting VERY good. But if you're looking at lower-end or older vehicles, manual is the CR.

Because old autos have like 3 or 4 gears compared to new (high-end) autos which have like 5+.

Sensors that detect and determine shift points got a lot more sophisticated and can "learn" better when to shift depending on your use of throttle, etc. rather than just relying on basic fixed calculation from RPM, speed, and throttle position. You don't need to mash the gas pedal anymore and wait 2 seconds to get a downshift.

It's definitely more fun if you're on the right kind of drive, with space; you have more control over the car. More annoying if you're frequently in gridlock traffic. For anyone talking up the auto-manuals, cite a particular example? It's not quite the same
