That was an awesome time. The shrooms started kicking in on the uber drive to the venue, but got visuals I've never had before.
Every time I take shrooms, the floors or walls or countertops will start moving around. That is the first visual I get every single time. Not this time.
This time I was seeing shit in 3D. It was cool as fuck. All the electronics in the uber were recessed back in 3D like the clock, the radio and his phone.
When I got inside the venue, everything on the walls was in 3D. All the posters on the wall had 3D depth to them.
There is this abstract mural painting on the wall when you walk in and that was all in 3D.
Spafford, it turns out, has this tranny named Darby that follows them around everywhere. Darby was sitting next to us on a bench just off the stage and was dancing like a freak to the opening band.
"She" was taking up a lot of space to dance because she was spinning around with her arms all open and she was dressed like a bumble bee or something. A lot of black and yellow stripes and then some strange gloves or mittens with the fingers missing. Total freakshow.
So Darby comes and sits down after dancing a few. By this time the shrooms were kicking in real good and I tell her I really enjoy watching her dance. My black fiancee said that made her night.
"Him," I said back.
"What?" asked my black fiancee.
"Its a him. Let's not pretend."
Then black fiancee had to give me a lecture about respecting what she identifies as blah blah. I kept cracking that joke a few more times until it was worn out. Black fiancee never thought it was funny.
Spafford came on and delivered big time. Best guitarist out there, hands down. They could have named it "The Brian Moss Band," that's how good this dude is.
We had one song on our wish list and that was "Minds Unchained." The version they played at Bonnaroo this summer gives me the chills when I hear the guitar solo.
So Spafford played it as their second song and brought out this famous sax player named Karl Denson. At one point during the song I closed my eyes and forgot where I was. Completely mind blowing.
No more concerts lined up until Boombox for NYE. Black fiancee just bought us tickets this morning to go see Lettuce in March so gonna needs some mo' shrooms yo.
