i know a guy like this. did his 20 with state parks department, retired at 44, then went to work for county parks department for next 15 years while collecting full benefits from the state. pretty good gig.

Military does the same thing. Retire at 28-45, go civil service, work another 20 years, and retire. Two pensions and free healthcare for life. Usually a VA disability "pension" thrown in as well.

Have a relative in a highly specialized field who retired from the USAF as a colonel, came back as a civilian doing the same job, retired again, and then was hired as a contractor to do the same job.
