A pro-style offense works well in college with the right players, but it is much harder to make work than a spread offense. There is a reason teams like Purdue can succeed with a spread system while Iowa's offense is putrid despite having two legit NFL TEs on the roster. Or why Stanford and USC's offense have struggled despite being stacked with future NFL talent.
DL is absolutely the toughest position to recruit in CFB. It is a lot easier to recruit LBs or convert safeties to LB. By disguising the fourth rusher it makes things more difficult for lineman and gets more speed on the field, which is important given the offensive shift in CFB.

I think that leaves 2 or 3 more guys that will leave. Between recruits and transfers, they're looking to bring in 30 more scholarship guys for next year. I believe they have 25 spots available to sign at the moment. |
