Anyways, even notwithstanding that this year has been incredibly demanding. I work all day, see my daughter for a couple hours, work until bedtime. I have actually done a pretty good job protecting my weekends (with some notable exceptions).

My agreed realization rate is >97%, though various clients receive rate discounts. But even that is going away. business is just insane right now in my field.

Assume 150 non-billable bullshit hours for shit like marketing, CLEs, writing articles, inputting time, reviewing bills, etc. (2800 total) Now assume he also takes 3 weeks vacation (and lets one week burn) and we're at 48 weeks. That comes out to almost 60/week. This doesn't account for a slow day/week. IRL that means that some weeks will be "slow" (40 hours a week or less) which will be balanced by "hard" weeks (80 hours or more).

IOW, this is horrible.

- Partners' incentives (billable hour, associate utilization, etc.) are to such that partners create boil-the-ocean projects that have some marginal value to the matter but would never be created if the incentives were better aligned. Encourages poor management and unnecessary time spent working.

- No respect for personal time. Assumption is that you're in a client-servicing business and time on the clock is better than time off the clock. Busy working weekends are a virtue, not a sign of a failed life.

Should also mention my favorite thing: Getting to work with some super smart people. It would take a long time to get used to working with dumbs.
