People I know who have them, love them.

Their main appeal seems to me to be that you can cook really healthy food that would normally be annoying and long to cook, like rice, beans and steamed veggies. With this thing you could prepare a bunch of healthy stuff and it's all done in less time thank it takes to bake a salmon filet in the oven.

i've read things online that the food doesn't get that hot, and it tastes flavorless for things that actually benefit from long cooking times.

i get that you can steam broccoli more quickly than in a steamer. but i wonder if the meals made from these instapots taste like shit or whether they're good.

People seem to love them. I mean if you're cooking basic things I don't think it would matter much. Obviously if you're doing a crock pot for something 3-6 hours that's different. But as far as decent food for the time saving purpose, it seems pretty great for $100 and it does the job of like 7 separate machines.

yeah, i'm wondering if it can cook the types of dishes you'd cook in a slow cooker.

if now, how's it different than a rice cooker that every oriental family already has? what other machines does it replace?

we have a steamer to steam veggies. it doesnt take that long to steam veggies. like 10-12 mins.

It's easy and probably the healthiest way to prepare them though to maintain nutrient content. And then you jazz it up by drizzling sriracha or seasoning them or something.

The best way to bake veggies is in the oven at high heat (450+) and drizzled with olive oil. And it shouldn't take more than ~10m.

I'll take this one, xo:

Instant Pot is a pressure cooker. People stopped using pressure cookers in the 1940's, so no one knows how to use them. Everyone, including myself, thought them domestic explosive devices.

Got mine last year, it sat in the box for 3 months. Now dont get me wrong, I did take it out a few times, looked at all the accessories, placed in on my kitchen counter for a few minutes, read through the recipe book, watched youtube vids about it, then it all went back in the box with the receipt.

Then one day I decided to throw caution to the wind, that I was the boss of this appliance, and set it up to pressure cook water. Yes, I did this while wearing a motorcycle helmet and yes, I hid behind the couch while it was building pressure, but long story short, I survived, and to this day use this fucking thing on a twice-weekly basis. Its the single best kitchen thing I have bought in the past 10 years. hth

for making fast delicious dinner in minutes, such as chicken, vegetables and rice in like 10 minutes, with frozen chicken. For making soups and stews, just throw all your left over stuff in, set the timer and viola. And for making the best bone broth you will ever taste in 1.5 hours instead of overnight. It also makes mashed potatoes in 5 minutes, delicious rice; it will cook a whole falling off the bone chicken or back ribs, from frozen, in half an hour. I could go on..

slow cookers and pressure cookers are completely different things with completely different uses. slow cookers are for low-heat cooking to break down connective tissue in tough cuts of meat and meld flavor in stews. it will ruin better cuts of meat, but will give you an even and mellow flavor for mixed foods. pressure cookers are designed to quickly wet-cook foods at temperatures above the normal boiling point of water. they will retain the essence of the individual ingredients more, and maintain more vitamins and nutrients in the cooking process. pressure cookers are 180 for stock and grains.

Pretty cr. You're able to sauté everything in the same pot then do the pressure cooking. Also has slow cooker function and other stuff. As long as you're not an idiot you won't hurt yourself. Everything I read is mostly people lifting the lid off before releasing all the pressure

We make beans in ours every other week or so and have made some soups. Saves a lot of time vs. stovetop.

Google pressure cooker recipes. If that stuff appeals to you, go for it. It's far more user-friendly than a stovetop pressure cooker.

if you like rice it doubles as a good rice cooker. the price differential between an instapot and a rice cooker makes just gunning for an instapot if youd get a rice cooker CR
