Was visiting friend in Brooklyn and traffic was bad so I opted to take the "subway".

Firstly, there are homeless encamped all through my local station. Secondly, I get down to the train platform. It is mobbed because the trains are delayed.

Finally, a train pulls into the 8th Avenue L station, and I mean creaks in at like 0.3 mph. The outside of the train looks dirty and some of it appears to be splashed with some brown, slime like substance.

I enter the train and it quickly gets packed to beyond standing room only. The train remains this way until I reach my stop, Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. I exit the train and the station literally smells like diesel fuel. It clicks in my head I read an article about this the other day. The city states that the smell "poses no threat to human life." I laugh to myself, because it smells like a fucking coal mine.

I walk with a throng of humans to exit the station. The exit is being repaired because the passageway is crumbling and everyone is forced into two narrow exit lines because the passageway is split in half due to construction. I choose one, and it ends up leading me round a corridor to a huge puddle right before the stairs to exit the station, because the ceiling is leaking water from...somewhere.

What a magical experience.

That's a shitty policy. I've never worked in a biglaw firm that had any sort of real facetime policy. I used to work from home all the time because I had a better computer setup there than at the office. There is literally nothing (other than meetings, which are flame to begin with) that can't be done remotely.

In-house is even better. Everyone dials in to everything and they think I'm a weirdo for dropping into people's offices (combination of force of habit, and my litigation background making me hesitant to put any more in writing than absolutely necessary). I was out for a week for a conference and nobody noticed.

NYC biglaw? I think nyc is worse whennit comes to FaceTime. But there are some boomer partners who will just call you and ask you to “come up” at a moments notice. Even though my firm didn’t have a FaceTime policy I had to watch out for those partners

I was NYC biglaw but worked with partners who were traveling a lot. Everything was just done online. In-house I actually prefer to drop by and just ask questions rather than sit there and compose emails (which inevitably include at least one typo) but phone works too -- everyone just forwards their desk phone to their cell phone. I'd say on a given day maybe 50% of the group is in-office.

facetime is probably dependent on the dept too. some depts are shittier than others within firms. mine just happened to suck. i hated most of the pple there too.

government is even better than in house. i work like 10 hrs a week and wfh on fridays. pay is low but its flyover and it goes up to 150k in a few yrs with pension. i cant recommend gov more to lawyers looking for a chill job.

yes, pradeep walks into the delhi metro, a gentle scent of fresh cardamon and rose fills the air as he goes downstairs on the modern escalator.. he goes past the turnstile using the most advanced ticketing system on earth, developed by IIT engineers in bangalore. pradeep waits patiently in an orderly line for his train to come, he enters the modern coach car to the scent of fresh tikka masala smells that remind him of his mother puja's cooking. feminine thin women in traditional indian saris line the interior of the train... pradeep then opens his briefcase, takes out his steel pipe, and proceeds to rape them

It's true. Though NYC is kind of fucked because (1) it's 100 years old, (2) it's 24/7 and that couldn't be changed without an uprising, and (3) MTA is controlled by Albany, which hates NYC, and so they take money out of our budgets constantly.

u actually got off easy

try this:

1. fights happening in front of u

2. 30 minute delays in either 20 degree freezing weather or 100 degree summers with no heat or a/c

3. entire sections packed and the next section is empty because a homeless guy defecated all over the floor and it smells like death and even the 10,000 cops in the city making $100k and collecting pensions don't want to do their jobs

4. randomly scheduled maintenance or breakdown of ur train so u have to get off for the day, also people killing themselves by jumping into trains which also shuts down the entire line for the day

5. general nastiness. people smell like shit, brush up all on you, push ur shit in, throw their dick in ur ass, massive B.O and cum stains rubbing against your clothes.
