state income taxes are also going to be raised from a flat 5% to a progressive income tax. during the recent governors race the winner, a fat tax-dodging billionaire*, refused to say what the tax brackets would be, but rest assured that they will begin at 5% and top out at who knows where.
the fact that there is actually a lot of money in chicago, but that its all earmarked for ridiculous pensions, all weigh on whether to purchase.
*Governor JB Pritzker's wife and their employee was found by the county's tax office to have engaged in a "scheme to defraud" the tax office by making one of their several homes 'uninhabitable' at the time it was assessed. they did this by removing all the toilets in the house. after they got a low assessment, they put the toilets back in. all of this was revealed during the election. none of it mattered.
