Working Americans are struggling to save, according to a Bankrate survey. More than 20% reveal they are not saving “at all,” a figure that has remained the same since 2016. Almost half of working adults are saving something — but only around 10% of their yearly incomes (just 16% say they are able to save at least 15%). The low saving rate has been blamed on high levels of student debt, the lack of wage growth and increased living costs.

Japan was in this boat post-WW2, and I think it is sticking. In general though, aging population = more focus on saving.
Germany: also was in a terrible state post-WW2, so culture adapts. |

I think it's actually more shocking that 60% of households earning less than $30,000 are saving something. Maybe it's $50 per month or something. I can't imagine saving money on that sort of HHI, even if you're a single man. |
