most of the guys i knew from restructuring didn't go that route -- i knew one guy who did and i worked pretty closely with the bfr guys for the better part of a decade

make sure u get a concrete sense of those exit ops bc my general sense is that it's pretty hard to sell urself as a bankruptcy guy for pretty much any other exit op and the work can be VERY grueling to boot

i got lucky and worked with two 180 bfr partners at one of these firms, and ended up working from home for almost two years straight

but a friend of mine worked with a very difficult dood and ended up waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat (and my friend was a legit badass with a special ops background, so he was no pansy)

career trajectory is objectively good. they offered to put me on track to become the future CCO, which i declined bc i thought compliance was boring. so, instead, i became the equivalent of a deputy head reg counsel.

i'm very happy to be out of biglaw and would not go back. i now work to live instead of living to work. in biglaw i was single/fat/lived in a shoebox apartment; now i own a house, have a six-pack, and date etc, in other words i get to have a life.

in the end i still think the law is total flame so in a few years i plan to enter early retirement and do something else altogether.
