Nice! Question, why a drift boad instead of a raft, and why a drift boat or raft instead of a jet sled?

I already have a 26' ocean boat, and a 20' Willie Predator (50hp outboard). I do 90% of my fishing out of the Predator. That said, the Kenai River is Drift Boat (or inflatable) only on mondays on the lower river. The Kasilof river is basically drift boat only. (hardly anyone uses rafts up here... they do, but they're a pain in the ass). I already have a 16' drift boat, but I can only fit myself and 2 (maybe 3) others in the 16', with the 20' I'll be able to fit myself and up to 5 others. I'm actually not a great fly fisherman, I can chuck bait with the best of them though. The drift boat will give me 3 more months of fishing since the best rainbow fishing is Sept-Oct.

A new big thing with the big (20') drift boats is to launch them in the ocean on a low tidal exchange, and fish for halibut out of them.

If I were to lose my job on the slope, I'd have 3 boats I can immediately earn money in. I miss the days of making 100K for 4-5 months of work. I could even go down and winter in Costa Rica and guide down there for another 30-40K in the winter.

I figured you might already have something else. I actually haven't done too much fishing out of a drift boat, but it's nice fishing water without a bunch of sleds ripping up and down.

Drift boat is my favorite. So peaceful and tranquil. We fish out of them, but usually we just bounce from shore to shore and fish from the bank

I just did a steelhead trip fishing out of a pretty sweet raft. It's nice. I've just got a 16.5 foot riveted Smokercraft. It's good for lakes, protected saltwater, and lower rivers, but not a really river fishing boat.

yeah... these days I'm a boat snob. I'll never set foot in another riveted boat. I don't even know how many hours I've fished and hand pumped water out of a boat because leaky rivets.

When I was a kid, we'd fish out of anything that sort of floated.

I'm in the market for a 17' to 19' foot welded aluminum boat.

What are the drawbacks to using a jet pump outboard (as opposed to a prop) in saltwater? It would be cool if I could go upriver in the boat and also use it for salt fishing.

You lose 40% of power with a jet unit, so, you would need a heavier, more expensive motor. Swapping lower units is really easy if you wanted. Does everyone use Jet Units where you live? Must be really shallow. you could just get a 150 hp outboard and you'll still have plenty of power and speed in salt and river.

If you're using the boat in salt, you'll want at least a semi-V hull. I would just go ahead and get a 20' river boat. You won't even notice the extra length after a few times running the boat.

People use jets on boats that they primarily use on rivers. Most people use props for everything else.

There are a couple rivers I'd like to be able to fish a little bit higher up than I'm comfortable taking a prop boat, but I might just be a pussy.

I'll probably get regular outboard with a prop. Switching lower units sounds like something I wouldn't actually want to do, especially because there's not really a clear river season v. salt/lake season.

You can go in REALLY shallow waters with a prop.

I had a hydraulic powerlift on my last boat. I'll probably put one on my current boat.

Also, you can tilt your prop almost all the way out of the water and still get where you need to go. Just make sure the outboard is "pissing".

You're obviously in the Northwest, I think you'll get more bang for your buck with a prop. Jets aren't even allowed on the Kenai river and we're maxed out at 50 HP (four stroke only)

I asked the seller about the corner anchor pulley.
