And ya, 2004 was huge in both the moment and hindsight. We had existential dilemmas about The War, The Welfare State, jobs, and even the environment. While these issues are pretty tame compared to what we dealt with in 2016, most people still felt like we were at a crossroads and had to decide important shit. That made the election BIG.

2016 was this on steroids.

His 2% margin in Ohio was worse than his 4% margin in 2000.

I would HAPPILY take a second trump presidency over any of the current dem nominees (except perhaps Biden). I’d take another FOUR trump administrations over even one term of president sanders or warren.

99.9% of daily political controversies make me think people cry about trivial shit because they’re retarded and can’t do math. I do care about the economy and stock market though. And even though Trump is for sure not perfect on that score, I’ll take idiotic trade wars and irresponsible deficit spending over the Green new deal.

it's not necessarily about helping the R party, which many of us are very reasonably ambivalent towards at this point---it's about hurting the D party. they're in disarray rn & their primaries are probably going to be a messy debacle. a loss for them in 2020 is a loss that will very likely cause a serious re-ordering of their platform. we like to impotently talk about how "the national conversation is always moving to the left" (because yes, it is) on here quite a bit. well, 2020 is our opportunity to potentially make it take a step to the right. you can go back to nihilism and political non-participation (not counting your daily xo screeds, ofc) after, if you'd like, but it's seeming more and more like this election cycle will be a pivotal one for the direction of the American left (and therefore, the direction of the nation)---so let's do what little we can to make sure it's not a wasted one
