this was in a downtown area of a major american city... the restaurant itself was grubby and stunk like BO as soon as you walked in. everyone eating, in line, and working there was overweight and run-down looking and there were kids running around crying too.

the line was moving slow as fuck and when we stepped up next to order i realized why: the workers were making "web order" burritos in between our in-person orders. me and my friend stood there while they made three web orders before finally taking our order. they made my friend's order first, then made a web order of tacos, then took my order. meanwhile the line was backing up nearly out the door.

i insisted we get the food to go because i couldn't stand to be in there another minute. a greasy "DoorDash" worker rushed in as we were leaving to pick up a web order and deliver it to some lazy piece of shit elsewhere. the whole thing seemed like a microcosm of america's decline.

Basically the company went to shit after the food scare and getting people back in the door was priority numero uno. What you saw today was him making investors happy. He went big on digital marketing and successfully repositioned Chipotle as the nostalgic lifestyle brand that millennials loved. Their entire executive team is already balls deeps in all the food delivery services so bringing them on too was the next obvious growth move.

What you saw today was the shitty side of all of this. The in-store experience is horrible. Lines are slow, the menu feels lacking, they always seem understaffed, the place is dirty, and you have this awkward situation where online customers and in-store customers are serviced by the same line and pick up at the same register. Their biggest problem right now is getting cheap labor and it shows (you can thank Trump for that one).

Luckily, the management team is legit for a bunch of TTTs and they see the same things you see. They are probably going to put in drive throughs for online customers to get those people the fuck out of the restaurant and give the real customers the experience they were once fond of. Unfortunately, the queso fiasco completely nuetered their tolerance for new menu choices. Don't expect anything soon.

Full disclosure: I love Chipotle. What your seeing isn't so much the decline of America as it is GC in motion. If you went to a Chipotle in MFH, you should have known better. All fast food sucks here (quality, prices, cleanliness, friendliness, hobos, everything). I will say, however, that I also notice massive taste differences between suburban Chipotle as well. I suspect this has something to do with regional sourcing of ingredients, but the darker side of me knows it's probably all the same Sysco shit everywhere and the Mexicans in the back are just getting lazier. If your in flyover, I suggest you look for another one. There's a burrito out there with your name on it.

tl;dr You can blame this on Trump. Labor is expensive, Corporate leadership is good, and Avocado's From Mexico are expensive.
