1) Ride to the airport: The driver was, I believe, a little bit retarded. He was genuinely stupid - the look on his face, the way he talked, the way he struggled to process anything. He spent the first 20 minutes of the ride talking about how his car had broken down twice in the past week and was having all these problems. There were tons of warning lights on his dash and he told me that he didn't know what any of them meant. (I had nfc either, I don't drive.) He said he had planned to go to the mechanic that morning, but he had canceled because his car had been fine for the past couple days.
We were on the highway and eventually, I was just like, "You know what? I have a lot of extra time before my flight. Please get off at the next exit and I'll order another ride; I don't feel comfortable in this car. I know it's probably fine, but it's better to be safe than sorry." Yeah I know I'm a little bitch but I was really fuckin done being in this broken car with this fucking retard. Anyways, he refused. He kept saying over and over, "It'll be fine, I know it'll be fine." I told him a dozen times to let me out, but he took me the last 20 minutes or so all the way to the airport. After the first few times, I had mostly forgotten about his car being fucked, and was just frustrated/pissed/frankly terrified by the fact that he was holding me hostage.
2) Two-hour ride: Gross old dude told me his entire life story, including how his step-dad "raped" his sister but it was partly her fault because she was a "buxom (do you know what 'buxom' means?) girl" and she must have been into it because "it takes two to tango". He also dropped the n-bomb, hard 'r'. Objectively funny in retrospect but I can't even express how uncomfortable this creep was to be around.
3) Short ride to work: The previous day, we had decided to move a meeting to earlier in the day. I'm infamous for being late / barely on time, and my boss asked me 10x if I was sure I could make it. But like a dumbass, I ended up leaving myself very little wiggle room. My driver was this fat, trashy looking lady who didn't say a word when I got in the car and greeted her because she was chatting away with her mom on the phone about dumb shit. That's fine, talk all you want, just get me where I need to be.
We were approaching an exit that always confuses people because there are two really close together and Google Maps doesn't make it very clear which one is the correct one. So as we approached, I said to her, "It's not the upcoming exit, it's the one after." She didn't acknowledge me, so I said it again louder. She kinda glanced in my direction. Then she took the wrong exit.
I'm nice and patient 99% of the time; like I said, I can't even drive, so who am I to be harsh on someone else. But it was going to look REALLY bad to my boss if I was late. So I said, irritably, "What?! Are you serious?! I just told you twice not to turn here." She was like, "YOU DID NOT!" and I calmly said, "No I actually told you twice, I guess you didn't hear me because you were talking on the phone." She looked at the map and started snapping about "LOOK! We're only 5 minutes away, I didn't take the wrong turn, I'm going the right way!" (Admittedly there's only like a 2-min difference between the routes, but every second counts dude.) I was like, "OK, yeah, we're close, OK" and she kept bitching. Super sassy, loud, you know the type. So eventually I was literally like, "OK, yeah, we're close, now PLEASE just stop talking." I know that's a fucked up thing to say but dude she wouldn't shut the fuck up.
She started legit SCREAMING at me, SHRIEKING "YOU DON'T TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!! NO ONE TALKS TO ME LIKE THAT!!! GET OUT OF MY CAR!!!" and pulled over and dropped me on the side of the road. Fortunately there was another Uber really close and I made it to the meeting the exact minute it started.
Also I think I got all 3 of these people fired.

1) wrong person/car shows up with random excuse for why it’s not the person/car I expected. No way I’m getting into the car, so ends up being an argument
2) car got a flat tire in a rain storm. Luckily called another Uber pretty quickly and didn’t get too fucked
3) cars in various stages of disrepair/messiness. I usually just tolerate this and take off a star when I review.

I was going to a club in Jackson heights a couple of summers ago. The route involved going through the National Tennis Center but certain roads were closed because of the US Open going on. My driver went in circles trying to find a way through for maybe 20 minutes or so. Eventually he said fuck it and went through a path that had been blocked with traffic cones. He rode over the traffic cones and had to get out and pull a cone that had gotten stuck under the tire well.
Another: I had taken Uber Pool (at the time of night I was riding and where I was coming from I almost never match with anyone anyway) and just my luck, we have to pick up another rider. The guys were having trouble finding the car. For 5 minutes or so the driver is trying to give them directions to us in broken English, to the point where I had to get on speakerphone and guide them. Then when they get there it's THREE drunk white guys (the limit for Uber Poll is two rider). The driver for some reason lets them get in so I'm squished in the back with 2 dudes for the entire way home.

Here's what I wrote in my report of that one:
"My driver took the wrong exit, after I had told her two times right beforehand which exit to take. She hadn't heard me because she was talking loudly on her phone, ignoring my directions. When I corrected her in an exasperated tone, she began yelling and shrieking at me. I apologized and tried to deescalate the conflict, but she became more aggressive with her tone. I responded in a rude, condescending (but still calm and not profane) way and she yelled "YOU WON'T TALK TO ME LIKE THAT" and pulled over and left me on the side of the road a couple miles from my destination. I think that she would benefit from more training about customer interaction. Also, I rated her 5 stars out of reflex, as I needed to order another Uber immediately, but I would like to amend my rating to 1 star."
And their response:
"We’re sorry to hear about the experience you described with this driver, [mongoose]. As explained in our Community Guidelines, riders and partners are expected to treat each other with respect.
Though we're unable to change your driver's rating, we assure you that we will further investigate this matter and potentially re-evaluate this driver's access to Uber."

Eh, it depends on what it is. I'd never report an Uber driver for stupid stuff like "they were playing music I didn't like" or "the AC was too high" or "they were going 55 in a 54". But there are some legitimately bad drivers out there (myself included, I would probably get someone killed if I got behind the wheel) and they shouldn't be driving. Same goes for the drivers who just flat-out don't know what they're doing, randomly charge people for cancellations that didn't actually happen, are assholes, etc.
This is my general customer service philosophy, I might add. I don't "complain" about minor stuff, but sometimes there are systemic issues with individuals that management just doesn't know about because nobody wants to be the jerk that says something. I'm always polite about it, but for example, there was a restaurant in town that always, always forgot the french fries with my order. Eventually I called up and was just like, "Listen, I'm not asking for compensation or anything, but your people keep forgetting parts of my order." The manager profusely thanked me for bringing it up with him as opposed to just writing a bad Yelp review or whatever (and apparently that'd been happening), and the problem got fixed immediately.

The new Uber Pool is a complete shitshow. It turned into the fraudlies Uber Express (waiting for 5 minutes before every ride, walking pointlessly to random corners at night)
Drivers systemically take off before you have time to put on your seatbelt
One Black driver kept getting confused by his GPS, circled for like 15 minutes during pickup then again during dropoff, then dropped me off at the wrong location. Uber only reimbursed 50% of the ride.
Another Black driver kept talking about his rap and movie "career", then ran out of gas mid trip.
I'd default to Lyft, but Lyft drivers seem shittier in general at driving, albeit friendlier.

Nigerian immigrant that played terrible Nigeria rap music loud as fuck when I was trying to get home after a late as fuck night at work.
Another bad one was a bitchy black girl that played shitty hip hop music loud as fuck, also on a late work night where I just wanted to get to bed.

i've only had one really bad uber ride and i got the 30 something brazilian she-driver fired for it
1. she couldn't speak english even though she needed directions to my location
2. she was loudly chattering away in portuguese the phone to one of her friends the entire time (literally about a bad date she had or something equally banal) and this was causing her to do 3
3. she was barely paying attention to the road, kept having to slam on the brakes. felt like a theme park ride
i whined after to uber and they comped the ride+gave me a $15 credit for the next, then they agreed to review her account. about a week later i got another email that effectively announced that she got suspended or fired while apologizing again for the bad experience. really good customer service imo
