A retired dermatologist from Oregon Health & Science University, Dr. Neil Swanson receives $42,814 a month, which is $513,766 annually.
Retired OHSU President Dr. Joe Robertson is the No. 1 recipient of PERS benefits. He receives $77,465 a month, which is $929,581 annually. He was No. 1 last year as well.

a college/university is a complex organization with thousands of students, instructors, non-teaching staff, and non-discretionary administrative responsibilities (like remaining compliant with all the FAFSA red tape to make sure students have access to federal loans). not on quite the same scale as flagship publics but you still 100% need at least one competent administrator at the top of the whole operation.
$300,000 is probably somewhere between 1/2 and 1/3 what most flagship university presidents earn, and fairly reasonable compensation for someone whose likely responsible for overseeing 35,000+ people total
