I'm playing some GTA IV again. I got killed by someone flung from another car.

i have come to appreciate the kooky physics in this game. in some ways, they are reasonably close to real-life, in that relatively short falls from height or serious motorcycle collisions will outright kill you. in other ways, they are completely nuts - colliding with a vehicle's gas tank (usually behind above the wheel-well of the back tires) will often set the car and all of its occupants on fire. hitting a car with a heavy truck at speed will send the car soaring through the air, with passengers ejected all over the place.
i also think they did a good job with the object textures. there are thousands of small details that went beyond the cut-and-paste textures of the basic building/road/etc. models. like how old brick buildings will have painted advertisements for the game's fake products, and you can see that the advertisement was actually painted over a previous advertisement for a different fake product.
