Attorney Andrew Stebbins

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it.” In today’s digital world, the significance of Warren Buffett’s well-known adage is greater than ever. Five minutes is more than enough time for anyone to write a fake anonymous review, defame a business, and or destroy a person’s reputation. Andrew understands the pain and damage caused by a fake review or defamatory statement posted on the Internet. Your reputation is the most important asset for you or any business, and protecting that reputation is Andrew’s number one priority.

In his more than decade experience of representing businesses and individuals, Andrew has gained an understanding of the suffering his clients endure from these attacks and focuses his career on representing and aiding his clients in restoring and maintaining their reputation online. Andrew knows that these problems are your top priority. Andrew works best under pressure and understands that time is of the essence when it comes to your reputation. He acts quickly to make sure that online content is removed and that the source of the negative attacks is swiftly resolved.

When it comes to online defamation, there are no cookie cutter solutions, and each problem requires a different response. From the day he started as an attorney, Andrew’s sole focus has been pursuing new and unique ways for his clients to achieve their goals and grow their business. Because he understands that every situation is unique, Andrew focuses on developing individually tailored strategies for each client that provide timely, cost-effective and successful resolution to each case.

Andrew is a successful litigator that has handled every aspect of litigation and trial as a lead attorney in both state and federal courts, representing businesses and individuals in a broad spectrum of litigation matters. He has a proven track record of success in accomplishing his clients’ goals, including winning favorable jury verdicts, six-figure settlements and injunctive relief.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and watching sports. He volunteers regularly and is active in several community organizations in the Greater Cleveland area.

Aaron Minc could barely find work out of law school — at least, not the kind of work he really wanted.

The tight job market he faced in 2010, on the heels of the Great Recession, saw many law firms tightening budgets and freezing new hires, particularly of young grads fresh out of college.

Today, the 34-year-old attorney, who could barely find a job as a freshly minted lawyer, aspires to build Minc Law into a global firm in the niche practice area of internet defamation and online content removal.

"I was desperate, looking for work and trying to support myself and my family at the time after incurring all the debt out of law school," Minc recalled. "I just ran with this. And it's worked out fantastic."

Minc said he always envisioned himself as a corporate attorney in a large, national firm, but at the time had virtually no chance of getting his foot in the door at a Jones Day or BakerHostetler.

In those early days, he bounced around a lot, taking a temp job at a small litigation boutique, then moving on to construction firm Donley's Inc., where he mostly reviewed contracts.

When he became the first attorney hired at boutique firm Sennett Fisher (joining its two founders), Minc looked everywhere to scrape up clients, including Craigslist. That led him to a "feisty" Mentor business owner who was hunting for a lawyer to help him deal with negative comments left on RipoffReport.com by an investor who'd lost some money. (The business, which Minc declined to identify, ultimately failed.)

Minc took the job, marking his entry into internet defamation law, a specialized area to which large firms rarely devote much attention.

He ultimately won what amounted to his first litigation case, successfully getting the negative report removed.

"A light bulb kind of went off," Minc said. "What I realized was, wow, there are millions of people on this website and a lot of people probably need help. I really wanted to help more people and (felt like) I'm one of the few people who can."

Minc was blogging at the time, but usually wrote about business litigation. When he posted about RipOffReport.com and the case he'd just resolved, "magically, the phone started ringing."

He became increasingly interested in this area of law, discovering there wasn't much competition. He worked other matters, but also took on additional clients facing similar issues with defamation.

While many of his clients were similar to that first business owner, there were also private citizens who wanted help getting private photos or other remarks scrubbed from the internet, leading Minc to deal with sites ranging from ShesAHomewrecker.com to TheDirty.com. Other clients wanted help to persuade publications to take down damaging information, which usually only happens when such material is deemed unnecessary, outdated or inaccurate.

From then on, Minc joined a couple of lower-midsized firms, sticking around for a couple years at each as he built his practice.

"After six or nine months, I realized I was getting overloaded," he said. "The activity was through the roof."

Minc was last with Meyers, Roman Friedberg & Lewis, where he was working of counsel, before he branched off to start his own firm, Minc Law, in January 2018.

Since then, his practice has grown significantly. Minc has already moved into his own space at the new Pinecrest development, where he now has a staff of six other attorneys.

The firm has grown almost entirely through web marketing and his blog, which draws in clients from across the country. He never planned to build a business like this, but saw an opportunity and ran with it.

"We are very fortuitous in that there is a great need for the types of services we supply in the market and very few people who provide them," Minc said.

His cases rarely go to trial. A letter to a website hosting defamatory comments is often enough to get the comments pulled down. And there isn't necessarily a legal case in each project he takes on, such as when he's trying to convince a newspaper to remove a story that keeps someone from getting a job. He cited Cleveland.com's right-to-be-forgotten experiment as evidence some outlets will work with him.

"Most cases aren't about money, just content removal," he explained. "You don't need a payoff to win, you just need the damage to stop."

Minc bills his firm as one of a kind, though that's hard to prove. An online search shows some other firms with internet defamation practices, including a few boutique shops with areas of focus similar to his. But none seem to have a bench like Minc does.

He said his firm, which logged $2.3 million in revenue in 2018, now fields 20-30 inquires a day.

"We get to pick our clients and cases. We set our own market rates," he said. "If people don't want to retain us, that's OK. The phone will ring again tomorrow."
