Ultimate is the first Smash I've actually played since 64 since I loathed Gamecube so much and the subsequent consoles confused me (I assumed the wii version would require Motion Controls, but moot point; also was busy with Law School/ITE Ignominy/being a hipster during that time).
Single player adventure mode is fun imo, especially by fighting game standards, because it's like a nostalgia trip of seemingly every video game ever. The mega man remixes are tight af, it probably has the best soundtrack of any game. Play single player, then play online, continue to the extent that you are addicted/have nothing else to do. Don't actively invest time in it like an actual hobby. You need to get to "elite smash" online before you can entertain playing in any kind of "tournament" imho.
I played online a shitload, got several players to "elite smash," but felt myself plateauing and using the same strategies over and over again. Continuing to put time in without getting better felt like a waste/proof that I suck as a person compared to Elite Losers. Also the new fighters they keep adding are gay/stupid imho. My online pass ($20/year which is 180, you need to ace OCI to afford PS4 online) expired and I stopped playing/caring. I will play against you if I can figure out how to do so on a nintendo console if you promise not to Trace my IP address/home address/post my home address (my imdb profile being leaked is enough imho).
