how would they have tests in advance for a virus that didn't exist before January?

They had decades to prepare for unknown virus arising and responding rapidly. They knew about this for 4 weeks in China and were too stupid to order tests

I believe they had to figure out how to test and develop a test kit before they could order them

Or another country that wasn't the source of the outbreak with drive-through testing, where anyone can literally drive up and get tested in minutes.

We can all agree the CDC and FDA are useless when shit need to get done fast.

Or even if there was a European country facing an outbreak that also had tests that were being used for several weeks before US had an outbreak. Good thing the CDC took all that time to develop its own test, which was then recalled because it didn’t work

SARS (SARS-CoV) has been around since 2002. That's literally decades.

This strain is called "SARS-CoV-2"

They only allowed testing of profiles that included travel to infected countries, not those that simply met the symptom profile. The test itself or whatever wouldn't have stopped that cluster fuck.

The CDC made the decision to build their own unique covid-19 test from scratch rather than order WHO tests already available:

This is insane.

But why are states hamstrung by the CDC. Can't they just contact Beijing directly and ask for some tests to use as a backup. I know that sounds ridiculous but if the governor of NY called Xi, which wouldn't be so crazy and would make Trump look foolish, I'm sure he could get some test kits.

can't tell if you're serious or joking about gov calling xi......

It is insane though how unprepared we were relative to other countries wrt testing....

I mean holy fuck - whose decision was that to reject an available test and delay (which meant delays of local surveillance testing) testing until they built a completely new one? wtf.....

insurance policies are the least popular things in life. yes responsible adults and responsible governments ought to invest in all kinds of insurance, but we dont.

we could have built pandemic wards in every major hospital, but instead we've tripled spending on gibs now
