The idea that we can pass definitive judgement until this thing is over is nonsense. There are too many questions / developments left - eg will there be an intense 2nd global wave this Fall? (if so getting thru as many cases now without overwhelming hospitals is preferable).
How to perform inter-temporal comparisons of cases accounting for measurement differences - eg differences in number of tests done, test positivity rates and so on. If you haven't seen the adjusted graphs (7 day rolling average of positivity rates multiplied by active cases showing a more proportionally correct distribution of active cases between April peak and this one) I highly suggest doing so.
The U.S. report card isn't great - but it's nowhere near as bad as is being portrayed - we're doing more tests per capita than any large country save for Russia (nobody believes those numbers though), including western europe. Cases per capita we're doing poorly in, but this is to be expected in one of the largest, and the most open country.
Deaths per capita we're better than Spain, UK, Sweden, Italy and Belgium (Ireland barely better than usa).
Clearly there are things we could've done better, but deaths are plummeting and I'm not sure what's a comparable example for the u.s. for what preventable looks like. Are we just delaying shit until the Fall, etc

There is no such thing as "too soon" asshat.
The virus will always be there. The only thing that stops the virus is herd immunity or a vaccine. We either all get it, or we stay in our home until January. ANything else is "too soon".

Sounds like you don't understand the concept of flatten the curve....
Or is a stronger 2nd wave this winter more preferable , overwhelming hospital capacity etc?
Consider the goal and time frame of said goal of the lock downs... come on man this isn't difficult.....
A surge in cases with deaths still declining is the best case scenario right now....
