i've only really hunted before with friends/relatives, but these fuckers are seriously overpopulated in my region. they just idle around in open fields and shit. when rifle season opens i'm going to bring the carcass sled and plug one and drag him back on my own and butcher it in the backyard. not for fun, but out of sheer duty.

Nice

I've been scouting all the public land by my house for a spot to hunt this year but there's like no sign in the areas that there should be tons. And I know there's a bunch here because i saw a big pack of 7 or 8 mature does cross the road right in front of me in broad daylight as I was leaving

i've had good luck looking 'close to the bone,' ie, very close to the boundary of the state-defined hunting region, as close as possible to residential areas. this is because the deer are brazenly migrating into populated areas to feast on trash and brush and suburban gardens. hunters like to head out 'into the woods,' but i am scoping big fat bucks on obscure salients of public land within strained view of apartment complexes.

Oh yeah the plots of public land I'm scouting are like central park lmao, completely surrounded with houses and apartments. Also there's a few slivers of open hunting land surrounded by no-hunting zones on state land, so it could be another good option
