poasters like dirte & ajp and a bunch of others are moving through the contest on good will, not their actual poasting. mpm didn't used to be like this & the change is connected to the loss of most of the asshole lawyers. One good thing about the asshole lawyers is they were able to put on "objective" blinders and try to actually judge something like this rather than just voting for who made them laugh last saturday

I voted in most of the matchups where I knew one poster or the other well on, I think, the first two days of preliminaries. I find post-election xo depressing and have tended to avoid it much more than usual or when I lurk I just browse/skim the top few most active threads of the day or week; as a result I think I missed all the rest of the matchups up until today. most other years I think I've voted in around 85% of all rounds on average.

besides, xo has all kinds of different cliques and preferences as far as what people think is 'good' poasting. I honestly thought I should have won MPM in 2016 but I got bounced in the semis I wanna say. maybe only quarterfinals.

CSLG undeniably drives content on xo bigly and he has plenty of fans. but he's undeniably divisive as well, and when you have Haters you can expect they'll be motivated to show up and vote against you.

I can certainly see your argument as to why CSLG should be considered the 'top' xo poaster, but no one on xo is so overwhelmingly popular such that they can actually expect or feel entitled to win in a given year. all of your argument in favor of CSLG would basically apply equally to DBG in a given year. he also was a huge driver of content: he made multiple 100+ poast threads like, weekly; created or contributed to lots of xo memes and catch phrases; and had a unique and identifiable poasting style. he had his supporters, but tons of haters found him distinctive in a bad way. I don't think many found it 'surprising' that he didn't dominate MPM every year.

I really don't know what my point is here. I woke up early inadvertently and couldn't get myself back down so now I'm bored and rambling here.

just to clarify: I bring up DBG not because of my subjective views on the quality of his poasting but only as an illustrative analogy as he also, objectively and undeniably, was a huge content driver but whose poasting, subjectively, also inspired a lot of derision from a vocal cadre. personally I like DBG a lot as a poaster and think he ran a top 15 xo schtick. I don't know that I'd want to be next door neighbors with him, but I wish he'd come back as a poaster.

CSLG has also grown on me as a poaster and I think his poasting is great for the board. like I said I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him win MPM in any given year. but I also don't think it can be called shocking when he (or any other poster) doesn't win either.
