That 2015-2017 era Alt Right had a level of intellectualism that was lacking in mainstream conservatism. Listening to him talk about nietzsche or carl schmitt or whatever without the implicit shitlib bias that those discussions are usually steeped in was entertaining.
But ultimately he just fucked up. The Alt Right never felt "American", and especially not his vision for it. They made a huge mistake in standing with the unsavory WN 1.0 characters. You'd listen to Spencer go on a thirty minute podcast rant about European man's faustian spirit or whatever and then see him at a march standing next to some fat loser with tats and a trashcan lid shield with a sunwheel painted on it. It was ridiculous.
Fuentes/Groypers/AN are able to blend in seamlessly with the less ideological Trumpian populist right. Their movement fundamentally FEELS American in rhetoric, symbols etc.
