there are some crypto traders who can successfully day trade because the market is so inefficient, but their strategies don't tend to be all that scalable (i.e. you can't run tens of millions of dollars on them). |

you're right i misused law of large numbers. i think my point is clear though: with tens of thousands of wannabe "daytraders", it's probabilistically certain some have performed very well just by pure luck.
i don't consider HFTs or people that frontrun the market to be "day traders". there seems to be some dispute over whether these firms employ actual manual traders. if they do, i'd be curious who the superstars are. i was genuinely asking whether uber successful daytraders exist, i wasn't implying that i'm sure they don't. |

You need to search for a niche with real edge, and ask yourself questions like “why does this edge exists,” “who am I making money off of,” and most importantly “is it verifiably true edge.” But there probably are 1000s of these people. For example, I know a guy who participates in treasury auctions because there’s something about getting better allocations if you’re an individual investor.
