In the United States, this pandemic could’ve been over by now, and certainly would’ve been by Labor Day. If the pace of vaccination through the summer had been anything like the pace in April and May, the country would be nearing herd immunity. With most adults immunized, new and more infectious coronavirus variants would have nowhere to spread. Life could return nearly to normal.
Experts list many reasons for the vaccine slump, but one big reason stands out: vaccine resistance among conservative, evangelical, and rural Americans. Pro-Trump America has decided that vaccine refusal is a statement of identity and a test of loyalty.

"In El Paso, hospitals reported that just 13 of 400 intensive care beds were not occupied last week. In Fargo, N.D., there were just three. In Albuquerque, there were zero.
More than a third of Americans live in areas where hospitals are running critically short of intensive care beds, federal data show, revealing a newly detailed picture of the nation’s hospital crisis during the deadliest week of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Hospitals serving more than 100 million Americans reported having fewer than 15 percent of intensive care beds still available as of last week, according to a Times analysis of data reported by hospitals and released by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Many areas are even worse off: One in 10 Americans — across a large swath of the Midwest, South and Southwest — lives in an area where intensive care beds are either completely full, or fewer than 5 percent of beds are available. At these levels, experts say maintaining existing standards of care for the sickest patients may be difficult or impossible."
that was with masks/social distancing. unfortunately we can't just let covid run its course because to do so would harm vaccinated non retards.

Where did Delta come from? Lambda? You could vax every man woman and child in the US and it is not going to mean no new variants. The world is a big -- and poor -- place. Frum is vaxxed, what does he care?

I have received both shots of the vax but am generally neutral on it for young people without comorbidities.
If widespread, near total voluntary vaccination was the goal, it is hard to imagine a worse possible rollout than what has transpired.
First, the Pfizer CEO's announcement concernkng the vaccine 3 days after the election was a blatant political flex that soured many on the vaccine.
Next, the stories came out that the CDC's recommended rollout of the vax was significantly influenced by "equity" concerns, resulting in minorities having a favored position in line had states followed these guidelines.
Last, many if not most states had an overly complicated plan for rolling out the vaccine that involved priorities for numerous groups. I get prioritizing residents of nursing homes and health care workers, but after that, it should have been available to everyone. Anything else stifles the general public's enthusiasm.
In light of the foregoing, very large segments of the population had the following choice: they could believe the vaccine was very important and necessary for their personal health, which entails a necessary corollary belief that the powers that be were fucking with their and their loved ones' health for political and ideological reasons, or they could decide the vaccine was BS.
Apparently many adopted the latter belief. I believe the necessary corollary to the first belief largely explains many people's negative view of the vaccine.

This is so blatantly untrue for 2 reasons:
1. The UK and especially Israel have much higher vaccination rates than the U.S. - both are on bigger peaks than the U.S. right now. 70% of Israelis in the hospital are Pfizer vaxed.
2. As others have said, the idea that the unvaccinated are creating new variants is interesting - but the blame for that would fall squarely on Democrats - not republicans. They're in power and they're the ones who have not done a "warp speed" for the world - in fact until there was political pressure they were protecting Pfizers profits at the expense of this.

Only one of 61 Israelis hospitalized with COVID in serious condition is a fully vaccinated individual under the age of 60, Channel 12 news reported Sunday, citing Health Ministry figures.
According to the report, 24 of those in serious condition are unvaccinated, while 37 are fully vaccinated. The lone seriously ill fully vaccinated person under 60 was in the 50-59 age group.
No fully vaccinated individuals under age 50 were in serious condition.
Meanwhile, among the unvaccinated, 14 people under age 50 were in serious condition, two of whom were younger than 40.
As to the question of why, in the over-60 group, the majority of seriously ill were vaccinated, the report noted that most people in the age group are vaccinated, and so that population is likely to get more representation. It is also possible that unvaccinated individuals have been more cautious than those who felt protected by the vaccines.

I am sorry, go back to the studies and tell me how effective they said the vaccines were against death and hospitalization?
https://reason.com/2021/02/23/vaccines-are-100-effective-at-preventing-covid-19-hospitalizations-and-deaths/
There is even more good news about COVID-19 vaccine efficacy. As LiveScience reports, the Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson clinical trials all found that their vaccines were essentially 100 percent effective in preventing severe disease six to seven weeks after trial participants had received a first/single dose. As biotech journalist Anna Nowogrodzki notes, "Zero vaccinated people in any of the trials were hospitalized or died of COVID-19 after the vaccines had fully taken effect." Now that's the kind of vaccine efficacy that we can all cheer.

Way to try to change the subject.
No, I avoid the vaccine because I have immunity which is better than vaccine from previous infection and, even if that were not true, my odds of dying or having any serious long term consequences of infection are near zero. I also have religious, medical, and ethical objections. In combination and individually, it makes zero sense to get a shot.
But let’s get into this more.
Previous infection is better immunity that vaccine. This has been shown in every disease. Every, single, one and it’s true for Covid. Where is the fear porn about the previously infected vaccine refusers dying. IT DOES NOT EXIST. Unless you are an 89 year old cancer patient, you won’t die the second time around. Period. Reinfections are so rare they barely register, and are almost always very mild.
The odds of dying as a healthy person under 50 are essentially zero.
No vaccine is FDA approved.
No vaccine has been declared safe.
Care to dispute any of my misinformation? Or should I just keep proving that what is being said by the media, government and pharma IS the actual misinformation. If vaccines are 100% effective, why are more than half of the people in Israeli hospitals fully vaccinated? It’s either so small a number we should not care about the unvaccinated, or the studies were wrong (because they involved almost no one who was actually at risk).

Interpretation
A previous history of SARS-CoV-2 infection was associated with an 84% lower risk of infection, with median protective effect observed 7 months following primary infection. This time period is the minimum probable effect because seroconversions were not included. This study shows that previous infection with SARS-CoV-2 induces effective immunity to future infections in most individuals.
oh ok, so less effective than a vaccine and you also have to get sick with covid to reap the benefit

More protective: 84% at 7 months for any infection v. 16% at six months for symptomatic for two shots of Pfizer.
You want the link for that too?
The point is that if you had COVID, you don’t need a vaccine. Period. Anyone who says otherwise is not “following the science.”
PS 84% is the low water mark.

And 16% against symptomatic infection.
Which is the comparator to the 84% protection against reinfection (asymptomatic or not).
So where is this data that shows vaccine is better immunity than previous infection? I keep hearing about it, but I have never seen it.
Once again, the point is the previously infected do not need a vaccine.

vaccine generated immunity offers broader protection against variants that will inevitably arise from peoples decisions to not get vaccinated
ow, a new NIH-supported study shows that the answer to this question will vary based on how an individual’s antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were generated: over the course of a naturally acquired infection or from a COVID-19 vaccine. The new evidence shows that protective antibodies generated in response to an mRNA vaccine will target a broader range of SARS-CoV-2 variants carrying “single letter” changes in a key portion of their spike protein compared to antibodies acquired from an infection.

Thank you. Here is a link to the pdf if you want to read the whole thing:
https://stm.sciencemag.org/content/scitransmed/13/600/eabi9915.full.pdf
It’s an interesting theory, but it’s not a study in any meaningful sense or the word. The conclusion is that the vaccine is, in the short term, producing broader antibodies. That sounds impressive, but it is meaningless in the real world.
Thankfully the authors acknowledge the flaws:
We found that the specificity of the mRNA-1273 vaccine–induced RBD-binding antibody response often narrows over time. In contrast, the infection-elicited RBD-binding antibody response often broad- ens over time (15, 39). [note they only used 3-4 months which is where, based on Israel’s data, immunity from infection starts to fall off a cliff — the same time period for antibodies where as B and T cell immunity stays longer]
The dataset was extremely small and also highly skewed:
The majority of our study focused on 14 individuals who re- ceived the 250-g dose, although we validated key conclusions with a smaller subset of eight trial participants who received the 100-g dose.
There are several limitations to our study. The vaccinated indi- viduals in our study were relatively young (18 to 55 years) and healthy, whereas the convalescent individuals were older (23 to 76 years; median, 56) with a range of comorbidities (13). In addition, we did not examine effects of mutations or deletions to the N-terminal do- main of the spike protein, which can also affect neutralization by vaccine sera (7).
I won’t cut and paste more, but the bottom line is that the authors were looking at antibodies in a lab, from a small group of people, in a very short time frame and comparing it to older, weaker immune system people who were previously infected.
So do you have any actual studies or real world data? Every study shows strong, long lasting, immunity from prior infection.

Frankly I'm shocked at the asian numbers
As of July 19, 2021, CDC reported that race/ethnicity was known for 58% of people who had received at least one dose of the vaccine. Among this group, nearly two thirds were White (59%), 9% were Black, 16% were Hispanic, 6% were Asian, 1% were American Indian or Alaska Native, and <1% were Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, while 8% reported multiple or other race. However, CDC data also show that recent vaccinations are reaching larger shares of Hispanic, Asian, and Black populations compared to overall vaccinations. Thirty percent of vaccines administered in the past 14 days have gone to Hispanic people, 6% to Asian people, and 14% to Black people (Figure 1). These recent patterns suggest a narrowing of racial gaps in vaccinations at the national level, particularly for Hispanic and Black people, who account for a larger share of recent vaccinations compared to their share of the total population (30% vs. 17% and 13% vs. 12%, respectively). While these data provide helpful insights at a national level, to date, CDC is not publicly reporting state-level data on the racial/ethnic composition of people vaccinated.
