keto is just modified atkins. and modified wrong. understanding ketosis, your body is going to be burning fat instead of carbs as an energy source. in the absence of carbs, and if you arent taking in enough fat, your body has to find something to burn...and its going to burn muscle/protein. that is why you feel like shit and low energy. atkins tells you that if you are going to cut carbs or go extreme low carb, you need to up fat to at least 20-30% of your diet.

there would be nothing wrong with a ribeye diet per atkins.

if you are low carb/extreme low carb, your body uses fat instead of sugar (carbs) to produce glycogen, energy. atkins says to eat "just NOT enough fat" so that your body will convert all the fat you eat into energy, and then also start burning through your fat reserves - thus the weight loss. fat and protein, in the absence of carbs, also makes you full and you dont go into insulin manias and crashes which is what causes overeating and carb overload. excess carbs in the body are just converted to fat reserves - weight gain. you do need the protein to "maintain" what you have, not for energy, but just to maintain your muscles, organs, etc. a human being cannot survive on fat alone. there are essential amino acids which come from protein, or very specific combinations of beans etc. that the vegan idiots do.

depending on the quality of a typical 16 oz ribeye, you are going to find anywhere between 15% to 30% in fat vs. protein. i'm not including that wagyu stuff which is over 50% fat.

you absolutely can live on a diet of ribeye and a 1/2 cup of broccoli per meal. you would get all the vitamins and essential amino acids you need. if you are scared of missing something, just pop a daily multi vitamin.

if you ever try atkins, you will quickly realize how little food the human body needs to function, and how much we over eat in america. i can easily go through a 20-24 oz ribeye, but when i am doing low carb, my appetite will adjust to what should be normal for a human being, and i find myself full with plenty of energy after about 8 oz. of protein (with good fat content) and a small amount of carbs in the form of greens, like 1/4 to 1/2 a cup.

most likely what he felt "like shit" was the carb intake when he was already in ketosis. the carbs suddenly kicked his body out of ketosis. most likely he started feeling lethargic and started getting hungry more often.

different people react different going INTO ketosis and coming OUT of ketosis. but ya, nobody EVER says that the transition in/out of ketosis feels good.
